ERROR DETECTED >Confirm Form Resubmission. This webpage requires data that you entered earlier in order to be properly displayed. ERR_CACHE_MISS

UPDATED NOVEMBER 20262 MIN READ6 FIXES

QUICK FIX

Reload the page and confirm that you want to send the form again, or go back to the form and submit it fresh. Do not resend payment or order forms, because that can repeat the action.

What it means

ERR_CACHE_MISS means the page you are trying to show was created from information you sent, such as a form, and Chrome does not have a saved copy it can reuse. To show it again, the browser has to send that information again.

Common causes

  • Using the Back or Forward button to return to a page that was the result of a form
  • Refreshing a page that was loaded after submitting a form
  • Old or damaged cached data in the browser
  • An extension that changes how pages are cached
  • A website or app that does not redirect after a form is submitted

How to fix it

Work down the list. Each fix is safe to try before moving on to the next.

FIX 01Reload and confirm the resubmissionEASY

  1. Press F5 (Windows) or Cmd + R (Mac).
  2. If a Confirm Form Resubmission box appears, select Continue only if sending the form again is harmless, such as a search.
  3. For payments, orders, bookings or messages, cancel instead and check your email or account to see whether the first attempt went through.

Why it helps: Resending the data lets the site build the page again.

FIX 02Go back to the form and submit it againEASY

  1. Open the page with the original form, or click the link to it again.
  2. Fill it in and submit it once.
  3. Avoid using Back and Forward on the result page afterwards.

Why it helps: Starts a clean request instead of replaying an old one.

FIX 03Clear cached images and filesEASY

  1. In Chrome or Edge press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + Delete (Mac).
  2. Choose All time as the time range.
  3. Tick Cached images and files.
  4. Select Delete data (Chrome) or Clear now (Edge) and open the site again.

Why it helps: Removes stale copies that can trigger the error on normal pages.

FIX 04Test without extensionsEASY

  1. Open an Incognito window with Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + N (Mac).
  2. Open the site there.
  3. If the error does not appear, go to chrome://extensions, turn extensions off, and switch them back on one at a time to find the cause.

Why it helps: Some extensions alter caching and page requests.

FIX 05Update the browserEASY

  1. Chrome: More (three dots) > Help > About Google Chrome, then Relaunch.
  2. Edge: Settings and more (three dots) > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge.

Why it helps: Fixes known browser bugs.

FIX 06Redirect after form submissionsADVANCEDSITE OWNERS

  1. After handling a POST form, respond with a redirect (for example 303 See Other) to a normal GET page that shows the result.
  2. In an Android WebView app, check the WebView's cache mode and that the app has internet permission.

Why it helps: The Post/Redirect/Get pattern means Back and Refresh load a normal page instead of resending the form.

Check it's fixed

  • The page opens without the Confirm Form Resubmission box.
  • Using Back from the result page returns you to the form without an error.
  • Your account or email shows the form was received only once.

When to get help

If the error appears on a checkout or payment page, stop and contact the company before trying again so you are not charged twice.

Questions

Is ERR_CACHE_MISS a virus or a problem with my computer?

No. It is a normal Chrome message that the page needs data you sent earlier. It usually appears after pressing Back or Refresh on a form result.

Will clicking Continue charge me twice?

It can if the form was a payment or order. Check your account or email first instead of resending.

Why do developers see it in the DevTools console?

It often shows when a POST result page is revisited or when caching is turned off. Redirecting to a GET page after the POST usually fixes it.
