Quick fix
Close Hulu, unplug your TV or streaming device for about a minute, restart your modem and router, then try again. If only Hulu fails, clear its cache or reinstall the app.
What it means
When Hulu won't open, keeps loading or stops playing, the cause is usually the streaming device, the home internet or the Hulu app itself. Restarting things and clearing the app's stored data fixes most cases. Hulu shows can now also be watched inside the Disney+ app, which is a handy way to test whether the problem is the Hulu app.
Common causes
- A temporary glitch in the streaming device or Hulu app
- The home internet has dropped or is too slow
- Old or damaged data stored by the Hulu app
- Out-of-date app or device software
- Weak Wi-Fi signal where the TV sits
- A Hulu service problem
How to fix it
Work down the list. Each fix is safe to try before moving on to the next.
01Check whether Hulu is having a problemEasy
- Open another app on the same TV, such as YouTube or Netflix. If it also fails, the problem is your internet, not Hulu.
- Try Hulu on a phone or computer. If it works there, the problem is with the TV or streaming device.
- If Hulu fails on every device, check the official Hulu Help Center or Hulu's official social media accounts for news of an outage.
Why it helps: It shows quickly whether to wait or to fix something at home.
02Close the Hulu app and open it againEasy
- Google TV: go to
Settings > Apps, select Hulu, chooseForce stopand selectOK. - Apple TV: press the
TVbutton twice quickly, move to Hulu and swipe up on the clickpad or touch surface. - Fire TV and Roku: press
Home, then restart the device (next fix) to fully close the app. - Phone: close the app completely from the app switcher, then reopen it.
Why it helps: A stuck app often works again once it is fully closed.
03Restart your TV or streaming deviceEasy
- Roku: go to
Settings > System > Power > System restart, or unplug the Roku for at least 10 seconds. - Fire TV: hold
SelectandPlay/Pausetogether for about 5 seconds. If it's frozen, unplug it for 60 seconds. - Smart TV or other device: turn it off, unplug it for about a minute, then plug it back in.
- If it still fails, Hulu suggests a full power cycle: turn off the device, modem and router, unplug them, wait a few minutes, then power them back up.
- Open Hulu and try again.
Why it helps: A full restart clears temporary glitches that the remote's power button does not.
04Restart your modem and routerEasy
- Unplug the modem and the router (or the single box from your provider) and wait 1 minute.
- Plug in the modem first and wait about 1 minute for its lights to settle.
- Plug in the router and wait about 1 minute more.
- Try Hulu again.
Why it helps: Restarting the home network fixes most dropped or slow connections.
05Check the device's internet connectionEasy
- Roku: press
Home, go toSettings > Network > Check connectionand wait for the result. A red X means the Roku can't reach your router. - Fire TV: go to
Settings > Networkand pressPlay/Pauseon the remote to see the network status. - If the signal is weak, move the router and TV closer together or remove obstacles between them.
- Pause downloads and other streams in the home while you test.
Why it helps: Weak Wi-Fi at the TV causes buffering and loading errors even when the internet works elsewhere.
06Update the Hulu app and device softwareEasy
- Roku: press
Home, then go toSettings > System > Software update > Check Now. App updates install with it. - Fire TV: go to
Settings > My Fire TV > About(orDevice & Software > About) and selectCheck for System Update. - Google TV: open
Google Play Store, select your profile picture, thenManage apps & games > Updates > Update all. - Phones and other TVs: update Hulu from the device's app store and install any system update.
Why it helps: Updates fix known bugs that stop apps from loading or playing.
07Try watching Hulu in the Disney+ appEasy
- Open the Disney+ app, or install it from your device's app store.
- Sign in with the same MyDisney login you use for Hulu. Hulu-only subscribers can stream Hulu shows there at no extra cost.
- If Hulu shows play in Disney+, the problem is with the Hulu app on your device.
- Disney said in May 2026 that Hulu Live TV and add-ons stay in the Hulu app for now, so this test does not cover live TV.
Why it helps: It gets you watching again and shows whether the Hulu app itself is the problem.
08Clear the Hulu app's cacheMedium
- Fire TV: go to
Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, select Hulu and chooseClear Cache. - If clearing the cache doesn't help, choose
Clear Dataon the same screen. This signs you out of Hulu, so have your login ready. - Other devices: you can usually clear an app's cache and data in the device's settings menu. Not every device offers this.
- Restart the device and open Hulu again.
Why it helps: Clearing stored app data removes old or damaged files that stop Hulu loading.
09Remove and reinstall the Hulu appMediumResets settings
- Try this last. Reinstalling signs you out of Hulu on that device, so have your login ready. If Hulu came built into your TV and isn't on Hulu's list of devices it can be removed from, it can't be uninstalled; skip this fix.
- Roku: press
Home, highlight Hulu, press theStarbutton and selectRemove app. IfRemove appisn't offered, you may be billed for Hulu through Roku; skip this step rather than cancelling your subscription. - Fire TV: go to
Settings > Applications, select Hulu and chooseUninstall. - Other devices: uninstall Hulu from the device's app settings or home screen.
- Turn the device off for 1 minute, then turn it back on.
- Install Hulu again from the device's app store, sign in and try playing a show.
Why it helps: A fresh install replaces app files that may be damaged.
Check it's fixed
- Hulu opens and a show starts playing without an error.
- Video plays for several minutes without stopping to buffer.
- Hulu opens normally the next time you turn on the TV.
When to get help
If Hulu still fails on one device but works elsewhere, contact the device maker. If it fails everywhere, contact Hulu through its official Help Center. Many websites list fake Hulu phone numbers; only use contact options found on Hulu's own help site.
Questions
Is Hulu down right now?
If other apps work and Hulu works on your phone, the problem is your TV or streaming device. If it fails everywhere, check the Hulu Help Center or Hulu's official social media accounts.
Can I watch Hulu in the Disney+ app?
Yes. Disney said in May 2026 that Hulu-only subscribers can sign in to Disney+ with their MyDisney login and stream Hulu shows at no added cost. Hulu Live TV and add-ons stay in the Hulu app for now.
Is the Hulu app going away?
Not for now. In May 2026 Disney said the standalone Hulu app remains available to all Hulu subscribers, and that Hulu Live TV will come to Disney+ at a later date.
What does a Hulu error code mean?
Write the code down and search for it in the official Hulu Help Center. For the message We're having trouble playing this and error P-TS207, Hulu Help lists the same steps as for buffering: fully close the app, update it, clear its cache, check your connection and power-cycle your equipment.
